CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A Cape Coral Woman found a strange construction item washed up by her dock and didn’t know who to call. It’s now gone, thanks to our story and a good neighbor.
Kathy Wilda says a large, yellow construction item washed up by her dock on Seabreeze Lake after Hurricane Idalia.
She suspected it came from the seawall construction site across the lake. However, she did not know who to call because the site did not have any signage, and crews had not been there for weeks.
After our story first aired, a good neighbor approached ABC7. He believed Williamson Brothers Company was responsible for the construction site. We gave them a call, and within a matter of minutes, they showed up, identified the object as theirs, and dragged it away.
The City of Cape Coral identified the item as a turbidity boom or barrier. It’s essentially a floating curtain that’s used to trap debris near construction sites. The City of Cape Coral was scheduled to have stormwater crews pick up the boom sometime next week.
A spokesperson from the City of Cape Coral said they encourage residents to be good citizens and pick up small debris off our waterways if they are able. If the item is too big or looks like it was part of a construction site, they say to call their 311 line.
