CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Cape Coral Police says a boy riding an electric scooter died Saturday after a car hit him.
The crash occurred around 2:11 p.m. at W. Retunda Parkway and Academy Boulevard.
Police said the boy rode into the intersection marked with signs saying “Cross Traffic Does Not Stop”.
The front of a Hyundai Sonata hit the boy on the scooter, knocking him onto the vehicle’s hood. Police said the boy was thrown approximately 75 feet into a yard along W. Retunda Pkwy. His scooter also rolled under the vehicle and was dragged 50 feet.
The boy was not wearing a helmet and suffered life-threatening injuries, CCPD said. He was taken to an area hospital, where he died.
According to the boy’s family, his name was Justin Argenti. He was a 13-year-old who attended Challenger Middle School.
Investigators said alcohol, drugs and speed were not factors in the crash.
