CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Lee Health experienced some power issues affecting patient care and procedures.

Lee Health said a significant power outage impacted Lee Memorial Hospital, which shut down Lee Health’s computer system.

Staff had to postpone elective procedures and some appointments.

Lee Health said the first sign that something may be wrong came Sunday night when it experienced a power bump.

This happened three more times Monday morning, which triggered a safety switch that affected AC systems.

One patient’s daughter told ABC7 her father couldn’t get his medicine this morning due to the outage. Hours later, she said the staff was able to get him that medicine.

Staff had to use paper in some instances since they could not access computer files.

“Please be aware that we are currently experiencing a power issue that is affecting some of our IT systems, including our phones and MyChart. Our team is diligently addressing these matters, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. Thank you for your understanding and patience.”

Lee Health said power was restored to their computer system.

Florida Power & Light (FPL) gave a statement on the technical issues:

We are aware of this morning’s outage at Lee Memorial Hospital and have verified that there were no issues with FPL’s power supply today. After confirming this information, FPL crews remained onsite to help the hospital troubleshoot its equipment.

Lee Health said full system restoration has been completed. The hospital said officials are working to reschedule patients who have been impacted.

Patients can view their information and communicate with the Lee Health medical team through the MyChart application.
