UPDATE: Southbound Chiquita is open at this time. However, it will close Wednesday around 5 AM so crews can repair the road.

Northbound Chiquita remains closed today and most of tomorrow, according to the City of Cape Coral.

City officials said they expect the road to be reopened and repaired late tomorrow afternoon or evening.

ORIGINAL STORY: CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Chiquita Boulevard near Cape Coral Parkway will be closed for an extended period of time due to a car driving into a large hole created by a major water main break at the intersection on Monday.

A tow truck pulled the car out of the hole so road crews could start patching the hole and water main break.

According to the City of Cape Coral, the main break has been repaired at this time. Approximately 50 customers were affected.

The city said it could be a few days for this intersection one block north of Cape Coral Parkway to reopen.

Drivers will have to use SW 16th Place to get around the roadblock.
