LEHIGH ACRES, FLA. – Drivers say a man is lucky to be alive after he crashed his car into a utility pole in Lehigh Acres on Saturday.
The man faced only a few scratches after he smashed into two trees and split an electric pole in half.
Kristina Mack said drivers hit that pole all the time along 75 Joel Boulevard.
“They come around this corner like crazy they don’t care. It’s just going to keep happening nobody pays attention they don’t realize it’s like black ice it’s just so slippery you try to brake just a little bit and you’re already sliding.
Deputies said rain and speeding could’ve caused the driver to hydroplane.
The Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC) had to come out and completely remove the pole because it was leaning on trees and could have fallen on someone.
Travis DeVaney is the lead Lineman at the LCEC in Lehigh Acres. He said his team is working overtime to make sure everyone is safe and had their power on.
“Supposedly this particular pole was hit in 2020, but this the pole on the corner there was also hit last year, so it’s it’s a sharp curve the people don’t slow down. We just had that little shower cMW through and all the oil that’s on the road from being dry so long they just hit that oil on the road and hit the pole and it’s very common.”
A tow truck took what was left of the man’s car to his home. The driver of the vehicle was not arrested.
Dave from Expert Towing said he had to pull the car out from under the pole.
