FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — At 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Lee County deputies received multiple reports of a person threatening to shoot people and hurt them with a machete in Times Square on Fort Myers Beach.
Late last night, a couple flagged down deputies and told them they walked past a bus stop in Times Square and a stranger who was lying on the ground got up and started yelling at them.
The couple told deputies the person threatened to shoot them and chased them down Fifth Street with a machete.
While the couple explained this to deputies, a nearby bystander shouted out that someone had also threatened to shoot and stab her with a machete.
While deputies investigated, they received a call at the Lani Kai from another person who said he was sleeping underneath a bus stop and was kicked by a man and a woman who stuck a gun in his face.
During the investigation, no weapons were found on anyone involved. Deputies say they couldn’t find any nearby video footage and due to conflicting statements and inconsistent injuries, no one was arrested.
“The freaks come out at night man!” It gets kind of crazy down here at night… but hopefully, you know, with some street lights it’ll kinda ward off things like that,” Aaron Pickens said. “You probably wanna take a better precaution of where you sleep at night because it goes down on Fort Myers Beach.”
