After a winless September, the Chicago Bears will flip the calendar to October on Sunday, welcoming the 0-3 Denver Broncos to Soldier Field in a game featuring two teams coming off woeful Week 3 losses. The Bears have the NFL’s longest active losing streak at 13 games and will march into Sunday 342 days removed from their last victory. These are bleak times for Chicago football fans. And with this weekend’s game closing in, here are a dozen eye-catching numbers and nuggets.

Chicago Bears wide receiver Chase Claypool scores a touchdown during the fourth quarter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on Sept. 17, 2023.

Points scored by the Bears in the first three games of the season. Their 15.7 points per game average ranks 27th in the NFL, ahead of only the Jets (14.0), Giants (14.3), Raiders (15.0), Titans (15.0) and Bengals (15.3). The Bears have had 32 possessions so far this season with five touchdowns, four field goals, six turnovers, 14 punts, two turnovers on downs and one that ended at the final horn.

Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert scores a touchdown during the first half against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 24, 2023, in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Points allowed by the Broncos in Sunday’s 70-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Only two teams in NFL history have ever allowed more points in a game. The 1966 New York Giants allowed 72 points in a 31-point road loss to the Washington Redskins. And the Redskins, of course, were beaten 73-0 by the Bears in the 1940 NFL Championship game. This past Sunday, the Dolphins had 14 possessions against the Broncos and had 10 touchdowns, one punt, two turnovers on downs plus a kneel-down to end the first half.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa hands off to running back De'Von Achane as Denver Broncos linebacker Nik Bonitto rushes in during the second half on Sept. 24, 2023, in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Yards allowed by the Broncos on Sunday, an average of 10.2 per play. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had more touchdown passes (four) than incompletions (three). Four Dolphins recorded a gain of more than 50 yards from scrimmage with Tagavailoa hitting Tyreek Hill with a 54-yard touchdown pass, De’Von Achane breaking off a 67-yard touchdown run, Chris Brooks adding a 52-yard run and backup quarterback Robbie Chosen tallying the longest reception of the day with a 68-yard TD grab from Mike White.

Chicago Bears kicker Eddy Piñeiro reacts after he makes a 53-yard field goal to beat the Denver Broncos in Denver on Sept. 15, 2019.

Average margin of victory in the last four meetings between the Bears and Broncos with each team winning twice. The Bears scored a walk-off 16-14 win in Denver in Week 2 of 2019 on Eddy Piñeiro’s final-snap 53-yard field goal. In 2015, Peyton Manning and the Broncos won a 17-15 nail-biter after the Bears failed on a game-tying 2-point conversion in the final minute. In 2011, during the height of “Tebowmania,” the Broncos rallied from down 10 with 4:34 remaining to stun the Bears 13-10 in overtime. (The ol’ “Marion Barber” game.) And in 2007, the Bears got two return touchdowns from Devin Hester, then a 3-yard Rex Grossman to Bernard Berrian touchdown pass with 28 seconds remaining to force overtime in a game they eventually won 37-34 over Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall and Co.

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones scores a touchdown in the third quarter on Sept. 10, 2023, at Soldier Field.

Points allowed by the Bears during their current 13-game losing streak, dating back to Week 8 of last season. The Bears have given up at least 25 points in each of those losses and have allowed 40-plus three times, including in last week’s 41-10 loss in Kansas City. The Bears have also allowed 5,302 yards during their 11-month skid, an average of 407.8 per game.

Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt celebrates a sack of Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields in the third quarter on Sept. 10, 2023, at Soldier Field.

Sack differential for the Bears during their 13-game losing streak with their quarterbacks taken down 44 times. By contrast, the Bears have only nine sacks in that span and just two games with multiple sacks. They have gone without a sack in six of their past 13 losses, including twice this season.

Chicago Bears running back Khalil Herbert fumbles against the Kansas City Chiefs in the second quarter on Sept. 24, 2023, at Arrowhead Stadium.

Turnovers by the Bears offense during their 13-game losing streak, including two more in their Week 3 loss to the Chiefs — a Justin Fields interception and a lost fumble from Khalil Herbert. The Bears offense has had multiple giveaways in six of those 13 losses and hasn’t scored more than 20 points since a 27-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 11 of last season.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. pulls in pass as Washington Commanders cornerback Emmanuel Forbes covers in the first half on Sept. 17, 2023, in Denver.

Plays of at least 25 yards by Broncos receiver Marvin Mims this season. The rookie out of Oklahoma has touched the ball 15 times through three games and, within those plays, has recorded receptions of 30, 38, 53 and 60 yards; a punt return of 45 yards; and kickoff returns of 30 and 99 yards. The 60-yard reception and 99-yard kick return went for touchdowns.

Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore signals for a first down after making a catch in the second quarter of a game against the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field on Sept. 10, 2023.

Third-down conversion percentage by Bears opponents this season. The Bears allowed the Chiefs to convert 10 of 14 third downs last weekend and rank last in the NFL in that category. A year ago, the Bears ranked last in third-down defense, allowing opponents to convert at a 49% clip.

Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson throws the ball during the game against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 24, 2023, in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Russell Wilson’s second-half rating this season with his struggles after halftime contributing to the Broncos’ 0-3 start. In the second halves of the team’s three losses, Wilson is 29-for-53 for 319 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. His first-half rating this season is 137.1. He is 39-for-51 for 472 yards with five TDs and no interceptions before halftime.

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields passes in the third quarter on Sept. 24, 2023, at Arrowhead Stadium.

Average completions per start for Justin Fields, who managed only 11 in last week’s blowout loss in Kansas City and just eight on the six possessions the Bears had after falling behind by 24 points. Fields now has a career passer rating of 78.1 and is 5-23 as the Bears’ starting quarterback. His average passing stat line in his 28 starts is 14-for-24 for 163 yards with one TD and 0.9 interceptions.

Chicago Bears offensive linemen Sam Mustipher and Cody Whitehair provide coverage for quarterback Justin Fields in the second quarter against the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 20, 2022, in Atlanta.
