Our Thursday is off to a mainly dry start, but we remain stuck in a stormy weather pattern and we’ll be tracking another round of widespread downpours and storms across the area later on today.

Temperatures are running close to average this morning, settling into the middle 70s for most at sunrise. Under partly to mainly sunny skies those numbers will jump back into the upper 80s and low 90 by the afternoon. This will bring in the sea breeze off the Gulf, which will help to spark scattered to widespread storms during the afternoon and evening. Look for storms to pack heavy rain, frequent lightning, and in a few cases gusty winds and small hail. Keep an eye out of flooding on the road ways as well during the evening commute, as locally heavy rain will lead to localized flooding in lower lying or poor drainage areas. 

While storms will wind down overnight, we have another round of storms on tap for tomorrow — and for each afternoon and evening going forward through the weekend. The widespread rain will help to limit temperatures as well, with highs settling into the upper 80s and lower 90s before the rain begins. 

Tracking the tropics:

Tropical Storm Philippe is tracking WNW in the eastern Atlantic. It remains weak, and is expected to fall apart later this week as it tracks north of the Caribbean.

Another disturbance near the Cabo Verde Islands will trail Philippe and is expected to become a tropical depression or tropical storm as it heads into the central Atlantic. Likewise, regardless of development, it is not a US threat. 

Hurricane Season continues through the end of November.
