The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an angry driver pointed a handgun at another driver during a road rage attack in Bonita Springs Sunday evening.
LCSO received a 911 call just before 7 p.m. on Sunday night. He said another driver pointed a gun at him near South Tamiami Trail and Highland Woods Boulevard.
Lee County deputies said the victim told them his car was sitting in front of a red Toyota.
It’s not clear why, but the driver in the red Toyota got angry and pulled his car up next to the victim. He then took out his handgun from the center console and pointed it at the other driver.
The victim told deputies as soon as he saw the handgun he called 911.
A report said the victim followed the driver for more than 15 minutes until deputies were able to pull both of them over near Orange Blossom Drive and Goodlette Frank Road.
The victim was able to keep a safe distance between him and the other driver while waiting for deputies.
LCSO won’t say if they’ve arrested anyone, but they’re in contact with everyone involved, and this is an open and active investigation.
“It’s kind of devastating… we don’t want that stuff around here — not at all,” Bob Blinn said. “I drive this 41 area to Bonita Naples a lot, you just never know what’s going to happen so I don’t want it to happen to me that’s for sure.”
