SAN CARLOS PARK, Fla. — A woman is facing several charges after a fight led to a drunken hit and run in San Carlos Park, according to deputies.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Lucinda Griffin, 52, after she allegedly drove a truck into a mailbox and then a parked car.
This happened on Sunday afternoon along Doral Drive near the intersection of Laurel Valley Road, according to her arrest records.
“I’ve seen cars hit mailboxes, run off the road,” said Steve Bill, who lives on this section of road.
Griffin was behind the wheel of a man’s truck that she took after the two were arguing.
“Never drink and drive,” Bill said.
It’s advice that Griffin could have used a few days earlier.
Deputies say she smelled like alcohol when they encountered her. Security camera video shows the truck she was driving leaving the road instead of making a near 90-degree turn. The truck mowed down a mailbox and slammed into a parked car in the neighbor’s yard.
Griffin then backed up and drove off in the white Cadillac Escalade truck.
“I would be pissed off,” Bill said as he watched the video. “Hit and run!”
Deputies say Griffin drove more than a mile to the Sky Food Mini Mart near Constitution Boulevard. That’s where she bailed out and ran away. She didn’t make it far as deputies found her and arrested her.
Griffin was booked into the Lee County Jail on charges of DUI, property damage, hit and run and driving with a suspended license.
“It keeps on going on, on and on,” Bill said.
He just hoped that her driving wouldn’t keep going on.
“Definitely take your license away and do some time,” he said.
