FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — The brand new clock in Times Square on Fort Myers Beach has a small problem: it’s showing the wrong time.
Hurricane Ian destroyed the town’s original clock on September 28, 2022. A year later to the day, the Town of Fort Myers Beach unveiled a new clock, manufactured by the same company.
“I love seeing it back again,” said Tricia O’Keefe.

However, less than two weeks later, the clock is now showing the wrong time on one of its four faces. The time displayed on the face point southeast, towards La Ola Surfside Restaurant, is approximately seven minutes ahead of the rest of the clock.
No matter the number of people stopping for family photos with the clock, it seems that no one is able to spot the one thing that’s off with the newest part of the island’s recovery.
“I just took a picture of the clock. That’s a cool clock,” said Jim Gazafi. And I didn’t even notice that there’s two different times.”
“Maybe someone’s just messing with us,” added Scott O’Keefe.
There’s no messing around when it comes to time, especially when time is of the essence.
“What about my parking time,” questioned Kaye Ciszewski.
It might really tick you off to find out you’re late to feed the meter, which is now done via your smartphone.
When will the clock be fixed? ABC7 asked the Town of Fort Myers Beach on Monday. However, we didn’t get an immediate response.
