The Issue: Mayor Adams’ speech supporting Israel and condemning anti-Israel demonstrators.

Not very often, but every now and then, Mayor Adams says something remarkable, something right on the mark that I agree with (“New York’s Mayor at His Best,” Editorial, Oct. 16).

Some might argue that it won’t make up for previous comments that might have been recklessly delivered by Adams, but I’m willing, at this moment, to tip my cap to the mayor for his insight regarding the ill-advised, pro-Palestinian demonstrations in New York City. “We don’t have to be all right. We should be angry at what we saw,” he said.

I never saw it coming — that so many demonstrators would side with the Palestinians after the deplorable actions of Hamas. Do any of these demonstrators have a clue what happened in Israel? Are they so far gone that they cannot see the optic of their words and actions?

I agree that Mayor Adams’ statements in the wake of the horrific actions of Hamas against Israeli civilians was strong, clear and very proper, and I commend The Post for their support as well.

However, last I checked, New York City was still in dire straits with high crime, out-of control-looting, a drug epidemic, a treasury on verge of collapse due to unlimited support for migrants who Adams is responsible for encouraging to come and more.

A moment of moral clarity when the cause is obvious does not erase all of that.

Mayor Adam’s full-throated support for Israel in the wake of the Democratic Socialists of America New York chapter’s sick pro-Palestinian demonstration was a profile in courage and human decency.

The mayor’s impassioned reaction was quite a contrast to the Palestinian “amen” corner in Congress (i.e., the socialist Squad), which persists in its demonization of Israel as an “apartheid state.”

Too bad that Adams didn’t point to the Biden administration’s asinine appeasement rewarding the fanatical theocratic regime in Tehran as laying the groundwork for that barbaric bloodletting by Hamas, its catspaw terrorist proxy in Gaza.

In previous times, I have been overly critical of Adams and some of his policies. That won’t happen again. In his speech, he has shown all of New York City that he is their mayor.

His words rang true and sincere. Right on, brother Adams.

The Issue: Rep. Jim Jordan’s failure to gain the required number of votes to become House speaker.

In another round of abject stupidity, House Republicans denied Rep. Jim Jordan their vote for speaker (“Rep. Jim Jordan fails in first round vote for House speaker,” Oct. 14).

Given the current turmoil in the Middle East, especially with the latest bombing of a Palestinian hospital, killing 500 souls, this is not the time for Republican recalcitrance.

Hardcore Republicans have perpetrated this nonsense to effect congressional chaos for their exclusive political purposes.

Wise-up, elect Jordan speaker, fund the military, get back to governing and stop these childish, backbiting games now.

Once again, GOP House members refuse to do their job. They should not be allowed to leave the Capitol until a speaker is named.

Most don’t want the job, yet they refuse to vote in a person who does because they’re all trying to make side deals for their own personal causes.
