Over the last 12 days, Israeli airstrikes have caused extensive damage in the Gaza Strip, particularly in the most densely populated northern region. Israel says it is targeting Hamas leaders and fighters, and has accused the militant group of using civilians as human shields. But an analysis of satellite imagery shows that places of worship, hospitals, schools and homes have also been damaged or destroyed. The bombardment, in response to Hamas’s deadly surprise attack on Israel, has killed more than 3,000 Palestinians.
