Man arrested for hit-and-run crash that killed 15-year-old bicyclist in Hendry County

HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. — A man was arrested for a hit-and-run crash that killed a 15-year-old bicyclist in Hendry County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), 25-year-old Hector Santiago Jr. was driving his Toyota SUV on Case Road near LaBelle when he hit a 15-year-old boy riding his bicycle on September 14.

Santiago fled the scene in his SUV and the victim, identified as Eduardo Dayan López Escobedo, was pronounced dead at the scene.

On September 15, FHP found the Toyota SUV involved in the deadly crash and impounded it.

Florida Highway Patrol

FHP troopers arrested Santiago on October 20. He was charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene with death and driving on a revoked license involving a death.

Santiago was booked into the Hendry County Jail.
