LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A six-year-old boy was pronounced dead at a local hospital Sunday after a single ATV crash in Lehigh Acres.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is currently investigating a single ATV crash that occurred around 12:00 p.m. at Sunshine Boulevard, N, just north of 51 Street West.
A 29-year-old Fort Myers man was driving the ATV along a dirt path with a 6-year-old boy.
The man failed to slow down for a sloped ditch, causing the child to fall off the vehicle.
According to FHP, neither was wearing a helmet, and no other vehicles were involved.
FHP said the adult man received non-life-threatening injuries.
The boy was seriously injured and taken to Lehigh Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
This is still an active investigation.
