A woman was critically injured Tuesday evening after she was struck by a vehicle on DuSable Lake Shore Drive near Buckingham Fountain in the Loop, authorities said.

The unidentified woman was struck in the northbound lanes near the 500 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive just before 5:30 p.m., police said in a statement.

The woman was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said. The vehicle, described as a silver or gray SUV, fled the scene. Authorities closed northbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive near the collision scene. The major accidents investigation unit is handling the incident.
