LEE COUNTY, Fla. — GPS screens were stolen off multiple boats at Sportboats Marine near Fort Myers Beach.
Two were valued at over $12,000 from one boat, another two cost over $6,000 each from another boat and over $12,000 more from a third boat.
Gary Foco with Moss Marina explained that a boat GPS is vital, especially when storms roll in.
“I just put one in at $24,000 and they’re designed to get you back in bad weather so that’s why they’re so expensive,” said Foco.
He said stealing a boat’s GPS is no easy task.
“It’s kinda a hard item to get. You have to be very intricate with what you’re doing, you just can’t cut wires here and there, otherwise the GPS is no good,” explained Foco.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said they’re still collecting evidence, but they haven’t arrested anyone yet.
