Homewood police are investigating the cause of a hit-and-run crash Friday morning involving a stolen vehicle and a funeral hearse with a body inside.

Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at 183rd Street and Kedzie Avenue involving a recently stolen Kia and a white Cadillac funeral hearse, and said a casket with a body inside was ejected from the hearse.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates the Kia was being driven south on Kedzie at a high speed when it collided with the hearse being driven east on 183rd Street. Police say three people ran from the Kia, but only one was located and taken into custody.

The driver of the hearse was treated by Homewood Fire Department paramedics and taken to a hospital.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the traffic crash to call 708-206-3420.
