BOGOTA, Colombia—The parents of Luis Díaz, a star attacker for the Liverpool soccer club in the English Premier League, were kidnapped Saturday at a gas station in a rural province of Colombia where they are from, police said.

Díaz’s parents, Luis Manuel Díaz and Cilenis Marulanda, were seized by at least two men who had been waiting for them at the filling station, a police official said in an interview. Diaz’s father was taken away on a motorcycle, the police said, while the mother was taken in the couple’s 4×4 vehicle. Police said the motivation for seizing the couple appeared to be ransom money.
