Sunday starts off great, with temperatures in the upper 60s and in the low 70s. The morning will lean on the sunny side before we get some clouds to mix in during the afternoon, along with the chance of a stray shower for Collier and Hendry County. By the afternoon, the easterly breeze will pick back up again with gusts near 15-20mph. While the breeze will provide some relief from the heat, temperatures are going to be pretty toasty for this time of year. With highs reaching close to 90 again, it will be nearly 5 degrees above the normal for late October in SWFL.
We will get a break from the gusty conditions on Monday and Tuesday, but tropical moisture from Invest 96-L (see below) will work into South Florida during this time. Rain chances may pick up to start the week, but we are not talking washouts — just a few showers across SWFL, mainly south of the Caloosahatchee. By Wednesday, our next front moves in, bringing slightly cooler and drier air back overhead.
Tracking the Tropics
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is keeping an eye on Invest 96-L in the southwestern Atlantic. Showers and storms are starting to ramp up, and a short-lived tropical depression is likely to form later today.
By Monday, it will run into strong wind shear and drier air, which will halt any more development.
It will not be a threat to SWFL, however, moisture from the system will creep into South Florida to start the week, slightly increasing our rain chances.
