Crete-Monee High School was sent into a “red lockdown” for a portion of Wednesday until law enforcement deemed a report came from a “joking” student, according to Crete police Chief Scott S. Pieritz and Crete-Monee District 201-U.
“Multiple agencies responded and we initiated response with school personnel,” Pieritz wrote on Facebook. “A student admitted to joking about having a gun. All students are safe and we are initiating students coming back in building.”
It is unclear if the student who joked about the weapon will receive punishment. The Crete Police Department as well as School District 201-U could not be immediately reached for comment.
