CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — A student was arrested after attacking a boy at L.A. Ainger Middle School in Rotonda Heights Thursday.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), the incident happened between two students, and the attack was unprovoked.

The victim was seriously injured and flown to a local hospital for treatment.

Parents report their students seeing a male aggressor pick up the victim and slam him head-first onto the ground.

“Basically body slammed him,” Todd Jacobs said.

He has two students at the school.

Parents shared that the victim is new to the school and has only been in classes for a few weeks.

Jacobs explained the whole thing happened so fast no one really had time to prevent it.

“We have adequate security, SROs, security guards. There were administrators in the cafeteria at the time this happened. It happened in mere seconds,” school district spokeswoman Claudette Smith said. “Administration immediately escorted students out of the cafeteria.”

The district has additional mental health counselors and law enforcement on campus today.

Smith said the aggressor will face disciplinary action according to the student code of conduct.

The suspect has been charged with aggravated battery.

CCSO Sheriff Bill Prummell said the student has an extensive disciplinary history at the school.
