LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Are you one of those voters who worries at election time whether your mail-in ballot got counted?

The Lee County Supervisor of Elections office is taking an extra step to put that fear to rest by offering a service known as Ballottrax, which alerts voters when their ballot is received and counted.

From the moment it arrives at the election office mailroom, it is scanned and a text message alerts the voter it is received. 

Eventually, it is opened, and the signature is verified.  If the signature doesn’t match, the voter will receive a phone alert notifying them.

Once the vote is tabulated or counted, the voter receives a final text giving them that peace of mind.

“We believe it will give the voter more confidence in voting by mail,” Doyle explained.

However, for some voters, it still may not be enough.

Sophia Nolan said she prefers to still vote in person despite the added security.

“I feel like they would much rather go to the place and see that their vote is being counted,” Nolan stated.

Collier County already successfully uses the notifications.
