Although San Diegans said goodbye to Roy Kent with the series finale of “Ted Lasso” on Tuesday, the actor who played the famously gruff assistant soccer coach, will perform next week in San Diego.
Brett Goldstein, whose background is in stand-up comedy, will be performing a live solo comedy show at 7 p.m. June 10 at the San Diego Civic Theatre. Presale tickets went on sale Thursday. General admission tickets went sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
Goldstein not only played Roy Kent on the Apple TV+ series “Ted Lasso,” he is also the co-creator of another Apple TV+ comedy series, “Shrinking.”
To play Kent, Goldstein deepened his voice and changed his physical stance — shoulders back, stiff body — to represent the character’s emotional withdrawal. In real life, he has a lighter, looser, chattier and much funnier presence.
But Goldstein does curse like his “Ted Lasso” character, so the show is restricted to age 15 and up only.
