Sofia Vergara was nearly unrecognizable in the first official trailer for Netflix‘s upcoming limited series, Griselda.
The actress stars as Colombian drug cartel leader Griselda Blanco in the six part series which debuts in January.
While portraying the notorious drug lord, known as the Cocaine Godmother, the 51-year-old actress was completely transformed into Colombian businesswoman, which included sporting cuts on her face.
The series has six episodes and is from the makers of the smash hit series Narcos.
In the trailer, the Modern Family alum can be seen flexing her drug lord muscles as law enforcement talk about how her ‘deadly’ business is ‘incredibly successful.’

After footage pans of illegal substances being moved, a man snorting cocaine and bags of cash, someone can be heard asking: ‘Who is the one in charge?’
Vergara appears with a stern expression on her face as she stares directly into the camera as ominous music plays in the background.
According to Netflix, the bilingual crime series is inspired by the life of the savvy and ambitious of Blanco, who they describe as a ‘devoted mother’ that ‘created one of the most profitable cartels in history.’
The synopsis also noted ‘Blanco’s lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family.’
The rest of the star-studded cast includes Alberto Guerra as Dario, Vanessa Ferlito as Isabel, Alberto Ammann as Alberto Bravo, and Christian Tappan as Arturo.
Griselda, which will hit Netflix in January 2024, comes from the creators and executive producers of Narcos and Narcos: Mexico.
This marks Vergara’s first scripted live-action project since announcing her divorce from Joe Manganiello, in July 2023, after seven years of marriage.

Blanco is considered one of the most profitable cartels in history.
The career criminal, who was only five feet tall, was involved with pickpocketing and prostitution from a young age – but it didn’t take long before her crimes began to escalate.
Having been plunged into the cocaine industry by her second husband, who she later killed, Griselda built a thriving drugs empire that saw her earning more than $80 million every month.
She embraced her criminal persona – her nicknames were The Black Widow, The Godmother of Cocaine and The Boss – and was not afraid to flaunt her ill-gotten gains.
But things began to unravel after she was incarcerated as authorities sought to press charges against the devoted mother for more than 200 murders.
Griselda went on to serve 10 years behind bars before being deported back to Colombia where she was shot and killed aged 69 as she stepped out of a butcher’s shop.
She still ranks among the most notorious drug lords in history and has been a central figure in documentaries such Cocaine Cowboys (2006) and Cocaine Cowboys 2: Hustlin’ with the Godmother (2008) – as well as film The Cocaine Godmother (2017) starring Catherine Zeta Jones.
