The FBI and Moore County Sheriff’s Office are asking the public for help searching for a minivan that investigators believe was involved in a shooting last year at two Duke Energy electrical substations. The attack left residents in the dark for nearly a week.

What You Need To Know

  • FBI and Moore County Sheriff’s Office are asking the public for help finding a minivan last seen on Dec. 3, 2022
  • Multiple shots were fired at two Duke Energy electrical substations
  • The damage caused a massive power outage that impacted 45,000
  • Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI, Moore County Sheriff’s Office tip line or submit a tip online

Multiple shots were fired at the substations approximately 10 miles apart in West End and Carthage, N.C. Nearly 45,000 people were without power as a result for five days, according to the FBI.

Spectrum News 1 reported last year Moore County Sheriff Robbie Fields called the acts an intentional criminal attack on the power stations, a key part of the power grid.

Whoever was responsible “knew exactly what they were doing to cause the damage and cause the outage that they did,” the sheriff said last year.

Investigators now believe the people inside the suspected van, last seen on Dec. 3, 2022, may have information related to the case. The van is likely a silver or light blue Honda Odyssey made between 2011 and 2017.

Investigators also say the public can give valuable information to help them solve the case. They are asking anyone who saw the van that night to contact the FBI at 1-800-225-5324, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 910-947-4444, or submit a tip online.
