Lectures & learning

• A “Lunch & Learn” lecture on “Mindful Awareness” is set for Thursday, Aug. 29, presented by yoga and meditation instructor Sofia Puerta Webber at the La Jolla Community Center, 6811 La Jolla Blvd. Lunch will begin at noon, followed by the lecture at 12:30 p.m. Free for Community Center members, $15 for non-members. • David Moseley, who teaches religious studies and philosophy at The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, where he also is director of global education, presents a series of public online classes exploring the four Christian Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) in “The Bible …for Smarties!” The 12 weekly two-hour sessions will be held at 6 p.m. Mondays on Zoom starting Sept. 9. $295 for the series. • The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library concludes the 18th annual “Flicks on the Bricks” outdoor movie series at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, featuring “Election” (1999) and film critic and scholar Beth Accomando at 1008 Wall St., La Jolla. $20 for Athenaeum members, $25 for non-members. • The sixth edition of The Lot’s Cinema Circle program in La Jolla runs Thursdays, Aug. 29 through Oct. 3, with six international movies touching on various themes and situations. “Hold Fast,” an exhibit exploring San Diego’s kelp forests and climate change, runs through Monday, Sept. 2, at Birch Aquarium, 2300 Expedition Way, La Jolla. The show features works of local photographer and marine scientist Oriana Poindexter, gyotaku prints created by artist Dwight Hwang and kelp forest mapping by Scripps Institution of Oceanography Ph.D. student Mohammad Sedarat.
