The City of Encinitas, in partnership with the Scripps Injury Prevention Network, offers an age 55-and-up specific e-bike/bike safety and skills class on Saturday, June 22, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Encinitas Community & Senior Center, located at 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, Encinitas. In this class, participants will revisit the rules of the road and practice essential bike riding skills with a certified bike instructor.
Topics covered include: where to ride, best practices, emergency maneuvers, legal rights and responsibilities. Additionally, the course will include discussion about fall prevention and offer tips to keep your body movements safe and your fit on the bicycle most comfortable, as well as other considerations specific for aging adults.
The three-hour class is broken up into three parts: lecture, skills drills, and a guided road ride to put your new skills into action. Class content applies to both regular and e-bikes. Some cycling experience is required as this is not a “learn-to-ride” class. Please come with your questions and experiences to share. The course is just $25 ($10 for Encinitas residents).
