From the Archives travels today up the coast to Solana Beach for this photo, cira 1928, of businesses on what is now Coast Highway. One shop that’s visible is Witmer’s Sandwiches, Fountain and Sundries. Several of the buildings are now marked with historical plaques provided by the Solana Beach Civic and Historical Society.

The San Diego Union-Tribune historical photos are provided by the San Diego History Center. To browse additional materials visit https://collections.sandiegohistory.org/.
