Aztecs fans will find the grass greener — and cooler — for upgraded tailgating experience at Snapdragon Stadium – San Diego Union-Tribune

The tailgating experience at San Diego State football games is evolving in Year 3 at Snapdragon Stadium.

The River Park areas now open at the southern and eastern edges of SDSU Mission Valley create opportunities for fans to tailgate on grass, rather than gravel or asphalt, and SDSU is offering a number of tailgating packages to enhance the experience.

SDSU is focusing its attention on activating the southern park area, which has been branded the River Park Block Party.

The Aztec Village, with music, food trucks, a beer garden and activities for kids, has moved from the green belt just east of the stadium to the south area near the trolley bridge.

In addition, fans can reserve areas nearby for their tailgates.

Most of this comes at a cost, of course, though fans who do not wish to buy into the premium experience still will have options for improved tailgating experiences without additional charges beyond the cost to park.

Parking costs

The primary parking lots are the Orange Lot east of Snapdragon Stadium and the Yellow Lot south of the stadium.

Orange Lot parking prices are $120 for a season pass (six home games) for cars and $480 for an RV. Single game price is $30 for a car and $120 for an RV.

Yellow Lot parking prices are $150 for a season pass and $40 for a single game.

These are advanced ticket prices available when ordering tickets online at goaztecs.com/tickets or by calling the SDSU ticket office at (619) 594-9834.

Day of game parking prices are higher.

Premium tailgating options

• There are 121 parking spots at the southern edge of the Yellow Lot that back up to grass tailgating areas. A season pass there is $300 or $80 for a single game. This includes the parking spot and a reserved grass area behind it. A 10’ x 10’ tent is allowed on the grass.

• For the same price in the Yellow Lot, fans can reserve a parking spot (and are allowed a 10’ x 10’ tent) along the route of the Warrior Walk, which is the pregame entrance route for the SDSU football team into the stadium.

• Fans also can reserve a 12’ x 12’ BYOT (Bring Your Own Tent) spot on the grass. Cost is $150 for the season and $40 for a single game and fans are allowed a 10’ x 10’ tent on the spot.

This option does not include the cost for parking.

Fans should call the SDSU ticket office at (619) 594-9834 for additional information.

• On Tuesday, SDSU announced a partnership with Revel XP, which specializes in premium tailgating packages.

Revel XP takes care of setup and cleanup, supplying chairs, tables, tents, ice coolers and even a TV, depending on the tailgating package selected.

There are four price points for the tailing packages, starting at $650 and ranging as high 3,250.

Note: The Revel XP tailgating packages do not include food.

Details are online at REvelxp.com/SDSU.

If it’s free, it’s for me

Tailgating areas that do not include an additional charge beyond the cost to park include the Orange Lot, where fans can set up a 10-foot-by-10-foot tent behind their parking spot.

Also, fans can set up a 10’ x 10’ tent in River Park East, east of the Orange Lot, and River Park South, south of the trolley bridge without additional charge.

These areas are all on a first-come, first-served basis.
