The Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation held its 17th annual Kayak Fundraiser & Cleanup recently at the Carlsbad/Encinitas lagoon.

Kayakers were allowed access to the lagoon that is normally closed to boating and helped preserve the area by removing trash. The YMCA participated by guiding groups and keeping folks safe. Participants hauled away 158 pounds of trash from the lagoon and surrounding habitat that day. Larger pieces of debris were located and removed at a later date.

Proceeds from the event benefit the foundation’s ongoing habitat restoration and other projects. The Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation is a nonprofit corporation that formed in 1983 with the mission to preserve, protect and enhance the Batiquitos Lagoon Ecological Reserve.

If your organization has held an event, you’re welcome to email a high-resolution photo along with information on the event to [email protected].
