If you plan on being a happy camper this summer, BC Parks is warning you not to purchase a campsite reservation from an unauthorized seller.

This reminder comes after someone was caught attempting to resell a campsite reservation for a popular B.C. campground on Facebook Marketplace for $40.

The Ministry of Environment, which oversees BC Parks, confirms that it caught someone trying to resell this and at least one other reservation online and says it has taken action.

“A recent situation of possible reservation reselling at Alice Lake and Porteau Cove Parks was investigated and confirmed,” the ministry said in a statement.

“BC Parks cancelled the involved parties’ upcoming reservations.”

The statement says campers should not purchase campsite reservations from any source other than its official website (camping.bcparks.ca) or an authorized travel trade agent.

The ministry says it is now reviewing its technology to try to prevent similar situations in the future.

As well, it reminds you that when you arrive at your campsite, you will need to provide proof of identity, or your reservation may be cancelled without refund.

Campsite reservations for the 2024 summer season have been on sale since January.

BC Parks says it took 366,000 camping reservations in 2023, which is a 15 per cent jump from 2022.
