Weather officials extended a beach warning in effect over the weekend as conditions at Lake Michigan remain dangerous for swimmers with waves between 4 to 7 feet expected and currents being life-threatening.
The beach hazard is in effect from 9 a.m. Saturday through Sunday morning, National Weather Service officials said. Several beaches in Lake, northern and central Cook counties in Illinois are included.
Occasional 9 foot waves are possible throughout the day, officials said.
Swimmers are encourage to stay out of the water, especially inexperienced swimmers because conditions are life-threatening.
Conditions at Chicago’s airports are overcast at 73 degrees. A high in the mid-70s is expected Saturday.
