For most local softball programs, the spring season took a painfully long time to get going. Dozens of practices and games were postponed or canceled throughout a rainy March, leaving teams scrambling to find their identities amid the dreary conditions.
But with the weather warming and the postseason inching closer, several local contenders have found their footing. Defending state champions Bishop O’Connell and Woodgrove top The Post’s midseason top ten following unbeaten starts, while Maryland Class 3A contender Chopticon has impressed with two underclassman pitchers.
“We’ve hit the ball pretty well, our pitching has been very good and our defense has been very good also,” Braves head coach Kevin Cioppa said. “But each game is a new game, a new battle, we have to keep on improving every day.”
St. Mary’s Ryken jumps up to the sixth spot following a slew of Washington Catholic Athletic Conference victories, while Lake Braddock also enters with a spotless district record.
All records through Sunday.
