The Highway 1 crash in Burnaby that involved four young women on their way home in an Uber has claimed a second life, CityNews has confirmed.
The crash on Feb. 18 killed one woman at the scene and sent two others to hospital in critical condition.
The parents of one of the critically injured women has since told CityNews their daughter died from her injuries at Vancouver General Hospital on Saturday, Feb. 24.
The young women were reportedly in an Uber on their way home from an evening of celebration when the crash happened near the Sprott Street exit just before 4 a.m. on Feb. 18.
Corp. Melissa Jongema with the BC Highway Patrol told CityNews last week that a white Tesla operating as an Uber pulled over near the exit so the driver could attend to one of the four passengers.
Jongema says a Chevrolet SUV then hit the Tesla from behind. One of the women has since been released with non-life-threatening injuries.
CityNews has reached out to the BC Highway Patrol for an update on the status of the investigation.
