A Burnaby man has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison after a court found him guilty of multiple break and enters starting almost two years ago.

The Burnaby RCMP says the break-ins happened at “high-end homes” that were being built between September 2022 and February 2023.

In March of 2022, Mounties say three properties were searched as part of their investigation, with one person being arrested.

At the time, the RCMP asked the public for help in returning property recovered to the rightful owners. Mounties have since said they’ve been able to return about 30 per cent of the items.

Twenty-seven charges against Chad Russell Hubick were approved in January in connection with the probe.

In a release Monday, Mounties say Hubick pleaded guilty on July 10 to three counts of break and enter, and four counts of possession of stolen property.

Police say Hubick was sentenced to two years for each count of break and enter and six months for each count of possession of stolen property.

“The sentence for the break and enters is to be served consecutively to the possession counts, making the effective sentence two and a half years in jail. This sentence is to be served consecutively to a sentence Hubick is currently serving for an unrelated matter,” Burnaby RCMP said.

They say the remaining counts against him were stayed by the court.
