A man accused of hijacking a car with several others in Vista early Sunday was arrested after he allegedly led officers on a pursuit that ended in a crash, sheriff’s officials said.
The victim told deputies that five men, armed with handguns, took the car around 1:25 a.m. on South Santa Fe Avenue near Civic Center Drive, Lt. Matthew Carpenter said in a news release.
Deputies coordinated a search for the stolen car. The type of car wasn’t released.
Some time later, the car was spotted around West Vista Way and Emerald Drive — about 3 miles from where it was stolen — and deputies attempted to pull over the driver, Carpenter said.
Investigators said the driver took off and a pursuit began. The car ultimately crashed into a small median. Deputies found one man inside suffering from injuries not thought to be life threatening. He was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Investigators did not clarify what happened to the four other alleged carjackers. Officials also did not say where and when the crash occurred.
The investigation is ongoing.
