GOLDEN GATE ESTATES, Fla. — A Golden Gate Estates man was put behind bars after his dog was found in his garage, suffering from extreme neglect.
Deputies received a report of animal abuse at Keith Lahey’s (36) previous residence in Naples Park back in Nov. 2020. According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), a 17-year-old Shih Tzu was found living in a cage under a boat.
The dog named Duncan was covered in dirt, urine and feces. Duncan was also unable to walk and had a bone showing in one of his front legs.
Deputies and Collier County Domestic Animal Services (CCDAS) officers noticed Duncan was malnourished with decaying skin due to lack of care as well.
According to the report, Lahey seemed unconcerned about Duncan’s condition and said it was because of his old age.
Duncan was unable to get examed by a veterinarian without anesthesia due to the severity of his condition. The veterinarian also found numerous open sores and ulcers. The veterinarian said Duncan even suffered from possible blood poisoning.
According to CCSO, Duncan had to be euthanized after the examination.
Lahey was arrested on Thursday. He is facing charges of aggravated animal cruelty.
