CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Conflicting speed limits on El Dorado Parkway are confusing drivers in Cape Coral. Many want to know just how fast they can go before it means a ticket.
A police speed trailer on El Dorado Parkway near Willow Court is telling drivers to stay under 30 miles per hour, but directly across the road, the sign says 35 mph.
“I think it’s pretty hilarious,” said Christina Possiel, who posted a picture of the signs on Facebook. “People were saying like it’s typical Cape Coral…I mean it happens. The poor guy who put up the trailer was probably working all day in the heat.”
“I don’t see many officers enforcing the speed regardless,” said Doug Smith, who passes the section of El Dorado Parkway on his way to the Boathouse Restaurant. “On a normal bike ride, I mean, there, and back I’ll see four or five speeders there for sure.”
Using a radar gun and the numbers from the speed trailer, ABC7 clocked 20 drivers going above 30 mph in 15 minutes. Twelve of those drivers were going above 35 mph. Cape Coral residents have different opinions on what the true speed limit should be at the thoroughfare.
“I think 30 is accurate. I mean, you’re in a residential area; driveways come right onto the street,” said Ryan Songer, who runs in the neighborhood.
Others told ABC7 the speed limit should be 35.
Cape Coral Police were notified, but the contradicting signs were still up after 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Some hope it doesn’t cause drivers problems.
“I’m just wondering which one they wouldn’t enforce,” said Smith.
Police haven’t told us what the accurate speed limit is for the section of El Dorado Parkway, but informed us that they are looking into the issue and will correct it.
