Chicago Public Schools canceled classes and after-school activities Tuesday because of freezing temperatures and wind chills that could make temperatures feel as low as minus 30 degrees.
Schools were expected to reopen Wednesday, according to an announcement posted to the district website.
The district called off activities related to Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, though classes were not in session.
The National Weather Service predicted Monday night that Tuesday could see a low of about minus 13 degrees overnight at O’Hare International Airport, with a high forecast of 1 degree and gusts of up to 30 mph.
