FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — A male Snowy Plover was brought to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) after he was found on Fort Myers Beach with symptoms related to red tide poisoning.
The bird was found on Fort Myers Beach. A Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation staff member admitted the bird for care, and CROW staff “noted a delayed blink reflex, the inability to stand, and other symptoms.”
He received pain medication, supportive fluids, artificial tears (to prevent ulcers from forming in the eyes), and was placed in oxygen support.
Staff has provided the Snowy Plover force feeds and medication over the past few days. Additionally, CROW said they will continue to monitor his condition under intensive care until he is ready for the next steps in his rehabilitation process.
