Travelers hoping to take the Lions Gate Bridge between North Vancouver and downtown can expect to run into some delays on Sunday.
The Stanley Park Causeway will have one lane closed on Sunday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. These closures will also be in effect for the following two weekends, on Sunday Jan. 21 and Saturday Jan. 27.
During each closure, one lane in each direction will remain open.
Alternatively, travellers can use the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing to get between the North Shore and Vancouver during these times.
Southbound pedestrians and bikes will be detoured through Stanley Park and to the east side of the causeway and bridge.
The only exception to the closures is on Sunday Jan. 8, when both the causeway and Lions Gate Bridge will be fully closed to all travellers between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., only a single lane closure will be in effect. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians will be detoured to the Ironworkers bridge during the full closure.

The closure and expected delays come after the Vancouver Park Board said about 160,000 trees in the city’s park will be felled for public safety reasons after a years-long infestation of western hemlock looper moths. The board says about 25 per cent of the park’s trees have been damaged by looper moths.
Impacted areas will be replanted with native species, including Douglas fir, western red cedar, grand fir, big leaf maple, and red alder.
