ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said one person is dead near Jefferson Drive in Englewood.

Forensics vans, unmarked vehicles, deputies and a mobile command center have been parked outside a home for over six hours.

Crime scene tape is blocking off a portion of the street and also is wrapped around the entire perimeter of a home.

Detectives’ main focus has been inside the home. ABC7 crews saw them shining flashlights inside and taking pictures all throughout.

Investigators also took photos in the backyard and around the lanai.

Deputies haven’t released how the person died yet or if they’ve arrested anyone.

Residents who live on Jefferson Drive said crime is rare in their neighborhood.

Chris Brown has lived here for 30 years.

“I’m pretty shocked because you never get any excitement like this, it kind of rattles everybody in the neighborhood,” Brown said.

“We’ve heard that there was a murder down the street, there was a couple living there, middle-aged,” Ron McGrath said. “They’ve had domestic problems before but nothing to this extent.”

Diane Hollandsworth said she’s seen deputies on this road since the couple moved in.

“I have never met the people but I’ve seen police cars there a lot at their house and on their property. They’ve never bothered anyone else to my knowledge, just keep the drama in their own house — the violence,” said Hollandsworth.

“It looks like someone passed away which was really devastating,” Conner Hall said. “Just a bunch of cops and they’re all silent and they all have their lights off. Bunch of people are just walking around checking the homes, it’s scary.”
