A Robeson County deputy was injured in a shooting, and a suspect was arrested Thursday, Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said.

The shooting happened on the 2500 block of Evergreen Church Road, a rural area near Pembroke, in the southeastern corner of North Carolina, according to the sheriff.

The injured deputy is a member of the sheriff’s SWAT team. The deputy was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover, the sheriff said.

The sheriff’s office did not give many details Thursday, but said more information would be released.
