San Diego police are investigating after a 32-year-old motorist was critically injured when he was shot six times in the head while driving in City Heights Tuesday night.
The shooting happened just after 10:15 p.m. on Polk Avenue near 36th Street, police Officer John Buttle said.
The driver was heading east on Polk when a man walking in the area shot at the vehicle at least 16 times, police said. The vehicle was hit nine times, while the driver was struck six times.
Investigators found 16 9mm shell casings in the street.
The injured man was taken to the hospital, where he was in critical condition. Doctors told police his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The suspect was described as wearing a light-colored hoodie and dark pants.
No other details were immediately available.
No arrests have been made.
