A man and woman are facing felony charges after leading state troopers on a high-speed chase on I-75 through Collier and Lee counties in broad daylight.
Just after lunchtime on Wednesday, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) attempted to pull a black Dodge Challenger over. The driver didn’t stop, leading them on a reckless chase — going more than 130 miles an hour.
The car was able to pass other drivers and get away from troopers by driving on the shoulder of the road. At one point the driver switched seats with his female passenger.
Troopers chased the vehicle until it ran out of gas, right before exit 123 near Estero.
When state troopers pulled them over, not only did they find two people inside — but they found a three-month-old puppy too.
Lee County Domestic Animal Services had to be called and the puppy was taken to their headquarters. FHP said the puppy would have to be picked up by his owners or put up for adoption.
The community is shocked to hear about this.
“It’s not often that I usually hear a bunch of news like this, it’s usually Hallmark,” said Michelle Dominguez.
“That’s insane, I mean Florida man, that’s crazy! They should be arrested and jailed for that, specifically having a dog in the car,” said Noah Kyger.
Both people involved in this incident have been booked into the Lee County Jail on felony charges.
