An Elgin man has been indicted on charges he killed his infant son and seriously injured another infant in separate incidents, according the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Malik M. Davis, 23, was charged by a grand jury with eight counts of first-degree murder and 19 counts of aggravated battery in connection with injuries he allegedly inflicted on his son on March 8, 2021, a news release from the state’s attorney’s office and Elgin Police Department said.

The child’s cause of death was blunt-force trauma.

Davis also was indicted on nine counts of aggravated battery for injuries he allegedly inflicted on a female infant between November 2020 and January 2021. Other than he knew the child, no other details on where or how the injuries occurred were provided in the release.

Davis was taken into custody on an arrest warrant in Pettis County, Missouri, last week and waived an extradition hearing, the release said.

He arrived at the Kane County jail Wednesday. A detention hearing is scheduled for Friday.
