Emmy winners Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tony Hale have signed on to announce this year’s Emmy nominations, live on July 17, at 8:30 a.m. PT from Disney’s El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. The nominations reveal will stream live on the Emmys website, via Emmys.com/nominations.
Also on hand for his first Emmy nominations ceremony as new Television Academy chair will be Cris Abrego.
“While this year has been marked by significant challenges for our industry and its workforce, there has been an abundance of remarkable programs, extraordinary performances and impactful storytelling,” Abrego said. “Great television relies on the contributions of so many, and we are delighted to have Tony and Sheryl help us acknowledge excellence across our field as we embark on a season of tremendous celebration.”
The 76th Emmys will air live on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT on ABC. It will be the year’s second Primetime Emmys event, as the 75th Emmys — delayed four months due to the Hollywood strikes — just aired in January on Fox.
The TV Academy picked two well-honored stars to announce this year’s major categories. Hale is a three-time Emmy winner, having won twice in the outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series category, for playing Gary Walsh on HBO’s “Veep.” He won those Emmys in 2013 and 2015, and was also nominated in the same category in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2019.
Halemost recently won an Children’s & Family Emmy in 2023 for outstanding lead performance in a children’s program, via Disney+’s “The Mysterious Benedict Society.” He’s currently the voice of “Fear” in Disney/Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” and next stars in Netflix’s dark comedy “The Decameron,” as well as the Netflix period crime drama “Woman of the Hour.”
As for Ralph, she won the outstanding supporting actress in a comedy Emmy in 2022 for ABC’s “Abbott Elementary.” She also landed a Critics Choice Award for the show, and a Golden Globe nomination. Ralph has received five NAACP Image Award nominations for her work in over 100 episodes of UPN’s “Moesha,” while her other credits include Nickelodeon’s “Instant Mom,” Showtime’s “Ray Donovan,” CBS’s Designing Women, HBO’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show” and the syndicated “It’s a Living.” Ralph is next on the big screen in the comedy “The Fabulous Four,” with Bette Midler, Susan Sarandon and Megan Mullally.
