Two weeks after Hurricane Idalia made landfall, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) completed the first pass of debris removal, cleaning up more than 100,000 cubic yards of waste within the impacted counties of the state.

Prior to landfall, FDOT suspended tolls to help with evacuation measures. Nearly 700 team members were prepared to take action once Idalia passed.

Over 100 Bridge Inspectors were deployed immediately afterward, and in less than 18 hours, all bridge assessments were completed, clearing approximately 1,000 bridges in Florida.

FDOT teams cleared all 10,000 fallen trees on the 15-mile stretch of travel lanes in Madison County in less than 12 hours after the storm hit.

In under than a week, all state-owned traffic signals were fully prepared and operational.

FDOT says teams are continuing to support the seven recovering communities needing assistance from Idalia.

“It’s important to remove debris as quickly as possible to make sure businesses can reopen and communities can rebuild,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “The Florida Department of Transportation has done a great job once again to support hurricane recovery.”
