This Hyde Park Art Center event celebrates the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Activities include folklore storytime, shadow puppets and printmaking. Semicolon Bookstore & Gallery will have a pop-up shop focused on Afrofuturism and science fiction and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago Chamber Ensemble will perform music by Black composers.

Opening this weekend, Lifeline Theatre’s 27th annual Fillet of Solo Festival is two weeks of storytelling and live lit at a pair of venues in Rogers Park, with performances by Jonathan Pitts (“My Dad, His Chimp, and A Serial Killer”), Nestor Gomez (“80 Minutes Around the World”), Shalaka Kulkarni (“Nyra’s Dreams”) and dozens of others. Stories will range from comedy to tragedy, personal to universal, local to international.

The Music Institute of Chicago presents its 21st annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, a free concert featuring violinist Hannah White, a new work from Nyandeng Juag from the Hearing in Color Young Composer Residency, a performance by the Music Institute of Chicago Chorale and others.
